For a not-so-awful day in August for football practice, Ottawa University was prepping hard for their season opener on August 28th. Pads were popping, coaches were yelling, and the team was trying to create beautiful music on the gridiron.
Defensively the Braves are showing promise. Making plays and disrupting the Braves Offensive was the norm during the practice on Saturday morning (August 21st). That side of the ball is looking forward to hitting someone other than the people they see every day. They get a chance this weekend when Ottawa takes the field at Oklahoma Panhandle State. Several key pieces from last year return including, Colby Johnson, Jacob Garcia, Jaylin King, and several others. With a change in scheme and Coordinators, it will be interesting to see how the defense performs this season.

I spoke with Head Coach Kent Kessinger after practice. Coach admitted the offense is a little behind where he wants them to be. In the audio below, Coach Kessinger gives his explanation. The run game for Ottawa University should be a strength. Derrick Curtis returns this season and looks to build upon the start he had during the 2020 campaign. The Braves also bring back James Reeder and Dalyn Johnson in the Running Back spot.
Dylan Foos and Jermaine Ziegler are back at Wide Receiver. Colton Davis spent time at Quarterback and Receiver returns for the Braves. The Braves will need those three plus a host of others at the Receive spot to step up.
In my opinion, the biggest question coming into this season will be the Quarterback spot. Who will step up to take that “brass ring”? Those questions and more will come into focus as the season gets underway on August 28th. Listen to the broadcast on 103.7 FM, 1220 AM KOFO, and KOFO.com. Pregame will start at one that afternoon. Kickoff follows at two.
